Thursday, August 05 9:00 PM
Keb' Mo'
Vilar Performing Arts Center

ABOUT KEB' MO':
Singer/songwriter and guitarist Keb’ Mo’s music is a living link to the seminal Delta blues. Born Kevin Moore in South Los Angeles to parents originally from the deep South, he adopted his better known stage name when he was a young player inspired by the force of this essential African-American legacy. In the storied tradition of bluesmen before him including Muddy Waters—formerly McKinley Morganfield—and Taj Mahal, who began his days as Henry St. Clair Fredericks, Moore became known as Keb’ Mo’.

Mo’s music is also a purely post-modern expression of the artistic and cultural journey that has transformed the blues, and his own point of view, over time. His distinctive sound embraces multiple eras and genres, including pop, rock folk and jazz, in which he is well-versed. In total, it owes as much to contemporary music’s singer/songwriter movement, encompassing his longtime friends and collaborators Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne, as to the spirit of blues godfather Robert Johnson that dwells in his work.

It also established him as a neo-traditionalist country act, and was followed by a string of several more platinum and multi-platinum albums throughout his career. Most recently, he’s been nominated for a 2010 Academy of Country Music Award for Vocal Event of the Year for “I Told You So” with Carrie Underwood. Ani DiFranco in Concert
Vilar Performing Arts Center

ABOUT ANI DIFRANCO:
Ani DiFranco has written hundreds of songs, played thousands of shows, captured the imaginations of legions of followers, and jammed with folkies, orchestras, rappers, rock and roll hall-of-famers, jazz musicians, poets, pop superstars and storytellers. But nothing she’s done in her 18-year career has garnered more attention than a business decision.

Since Ani bucked the major label system in the early-‘90s, opting to release her music on her own terms, the self-described Little Folksinger has been the subject of all kinds of hyperbole. She’s been called “fiercely independent” (Rolling Stone), “inspirational” (All Music Guide) and “the ultimate do-it-yourself songwriter” (The New York Times). As the cracks in the music industry get larger and more big-name artists follow Ani’s lead – Radiohead, Madonna and Nine Inch Nails among them – maybe people will just start calling her “smart.”
