JONATHAN TYLER & THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

July 6  6:30pm—Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights are one of the most electrifying young bands in America. Their music is the wake up call rock ‘n’ roll needs, with a touch of blues and soul along for the ride. Tyler and the Lights are a throwback in the best sense of the word. Since their 2007 debut they have been a blur of full-tilt showmanship worthy of groups like the Rolling Stones or E Street Band at their hungriest. Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights have played alongside heavyweights like AC/DC, ZZ Top, Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Deep Purple. www.jonathantylermusic.com

To his surprise, he finds that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in a white picket fence world reminiscent of a cheerfully innocent 1950s America, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders—like Chuck! ABOUT HOOTS & HELLMOUTH:
Tuesday, July 13 6:30pm—Mixing the twisted roots of American music in a fierce and fiery alchemy, Hoots & Hellmouth create new music for old souls. At once fresh and vibrant, yet somehow strangely familiar, their three-part harmonies co-mingle with acoustic guitars, a mandolin, an upright bass and foot stompin' create unmatched on-stage synergy. "The Hoots' blend of alt-country, rock and gospel [is] amplified only by their own considerable joy...the disparate trio prove[s] that showmanship is more about attitude and energy." Grammy-winning guitar virtuoso Jonny Lang returns to Beaver Creek as a part of his “Live… By Request” tour, which allows fans to log on to Lang’s website (jonnylang.com) and request songs for him to perform live at the VPAC.
jonnylang

Lang’s music is a cool blend of blues, rock, zydeco-tinged gospel and jazz.   A professional musician since age 12, Lang’s career began with The Bad Medicine Blues Band,  the group who inspired him to learn guitar.  While kids his age were still playing high school gigs, Lang was touring with giants like The Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy, Aerosmith, BB King and Sting. Lang released the critically acclaimed multi-platinum Lie to Me in 1997. The next album, Wander this World was released the following year and earned a Grammy nomination. Lang's 2006 release, the gospel-influenced Turn Around, won him his first Grammy Award.

US News and World Report says that Lang has “the voice of a grizzled blues veteran… and guitar skills to match.”

Vilar Performing Arts Center

ABOUT "LOCAL COLOR":
Two award-winning artists, renowned Hollywood writer/director and painter George Gallo (Midnight Run/Bad Boys) and nationally recognized American painter Don Sahli are honored to support the Vilar Performing Arts Center and the 23rd Annual Beaver Creek Art Festival with four days of painting and special events surrounding a benefit screening of Gallo’s critically acclaimed film, "Local Color," at the Vilar Center Saturday, July 31. All box office proceeds will fund on-going programming at the non-profit Vilar Performing Arts Center.

"Local Color" - inspired by George Gallo’s own true story of apprenticeship as a young artist - is a compelling film that is opening the eyes and hearts of yet another new generation to the value of mentorship and the joy of seeing the beauty in life. Oscar nominees Armin Mueller-Stahl (Shine), Charles Durning (To Be or Not to Be/The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas) and Diana Scarwid (Inside Moves) are teamed with a talent-rich cast that includes Trevor Morgan (ER, The Sixth Sense), Samantha Mathis, plus veterans Ray Liotta and  Ron Perlman.

A story that began centuries ago with Russian Czar Peter The Great will continue to unfold as Gallo and Sahli explore the three hundred year old connection between the legacy of great Russian masters and today’s resurgent American representational/impressionist art movement. Gallo and Sahli will spend the week painting outdoor locations around Vail and Beaver Creek, stopping spontaneously to capture local scenes on canvas.  The public can visit Vail Fine Art Gallery on Thursday, July 29 and Beaver Creek Fine Art Gallery on Friday, July 30 to see those paintings on display.

The “Legacy of the Russian Masters Paint-Off” will be held on the eve of the 23rd Annual Beaver Creek Art Festival, Friday, July 30, 4-7pm at Beaver Creek Fine Art Gallery. Gallo and Sahli will work side-by-side, while gallery owner Jim Tylich moderates the evening demonstration with informative explanations of each artist’s technique.

At 6pm Saturday, July 31, the Vilar doors and lower lobby bar will open for the screening of Local Color.  At 7pm, before the introduction of Local Color by George Gallo, theatergoers will be treated to a special video short: "Legacy of the Russian Masters." Gallo and Sahli will then share more with the audience on their remarkably similar paths as students of two great Russian artists, including some brief stories about their mentors, George Cherepov and Sergei Bongart, along with their thoughts on the importance of representational art in the world today.

Tickets for "Local Color" are $10 for students/seniors and $12 for Adults. Tickets for the Legacy of the Russian Masters Backstage Reception are $28 and include admission, preferred seating for the movie screening and the reception. Tickets are available online or by calling the Vilar Center box office at 888.920.ARTS(2787).
